Sumya's Murder-A thwarted Kerala public

Murder of Saumya raised more uproar than in any similar incidents in Kerala in the recent times because of its shock level.  An innocent and helpless female was subjected to the most brutal violation by a sexual predator who ended her life most tragically and prematurely was something the people could not contain.  One more family lost its breadwinner, its loving and caring daughter and a sister the eulogy went on. That the accused was a severely handicapped male, his left arm was chopped off, reminded that womanhood there is still a sign of weakness and a sex symbol no matter her emerging image as a family supporter and an economic entrepreneur.

None of the media made any reservation in giving the details of the accused and the incident.  He was Govindachami, a native from the nearby state, Tamil Nadu, a vagrant and a criminal.  He encroached in to the Ladies' Compartment of the train in which Saumya made her fatal journey back home that day from Ernakulum where she worked as a sales girl.  She was apparently the last and only passenger in the compartment.

After hearing all, the common people of Kerala made a sigh of relief, the 'bastard' would get the maximum punishment he deserves.  The judge would give him at least a few life sentences that in the jail he would rote.

But all those hopes and trust in the judiciary are thwarted now.  If we believe in the conflicting news spat out by the same media, that is justified.  In the end, Govindachami is no more a vagrant but a high profile jailer whose life is of at most value and interest to somebody who are not going to rest until he is declared a free man.  They have hired a high profile lawyer for accomplishing that job.  But who are they? That is the question nobody can answer, or those who know are not answering that.

The twist in Saumya's case was given the first indication by blogger Orila ( a single leaf).  In a heart-wrenching appeal it informed the bloggers that a strong legal team of five, headed by a 'dreaded' B.A Aloor an advocate all the way form the Bombay bar was flexing his legal muscle to help the vagabond Govindachami.  If the situation prevails, the post warned, Govindachami would walk out of the courtroom on the day of the judgment as a free man.  The Kerala blog-world rose to action in no time, links to Orila's two posts were seemingly flashed to more than 2000 recipients, and their reactions started pouring in.

However, the legal 'glamour' around Aloor did not last long.  By then, the conventional media so far remained silent about the twist came out with their pieces of information.  They alluded his fame to winning cases in favour of criminals and robbers charged with murder and rape all across India.

More stories:

1. Govindachami is truly Charley Thomas. He was converted to Christianity four years ago by a Christian conversion group called 'Akaashapparavakal' (skybirds).
2. The police bungled the case through neglecting valid evidence, incompetent investigation and drawing inappropriate clauses to charge the accused.
