Health benefits

1.  Aids digestion.

Being rich in fibre, pineapple passes through the digestive tract regularly, stimulating gastric juices to help it dissolve and help digestion, aiding the bulk formation of the stool.  Bromalin in the fruit also promotes digestion by reducing gut inflammation.

2.  Cures the symptoms of cough and cold.

Vitamin C and bromalin in the fruit are known for preventing respiratory illness due to the accumulation of phlegm and mucus.  If you're feeling the symptoms of a cold, eat the fruit to avoid the building of mucus in your respiratory tract.

3.  Strengthen bones.

The primary mineral in the fruit is manganese (one fruit contains 70 % of the daily recommended amount) essential for bone growth and repairs.

4.  Improves oral health.

It is known that eating pineapple can strengthen your teeth.  It can also protect you against oral cancer.  Also, astringent found in the fruit can help your teeth and gums.

5.  Maintains healthy vision.

Beta-carotene in the fruit can help to maintain a healthy vision and may delay the onset of visual problems like muscular degeneration and help improve eye vision.

6.  Speeds up the healing process of the body.

Pineapples are considered healing fruits.  The collagen content is essential for organs, bones, skin, and blood vessel walls.

7.  Treat symptoms of arthritis.

Bromelain is present in the fruit; the proteolytic enzyme can break down complex proteins helping reduce inflation in the body.  Eating fruit can lessen the muscle pain from arthritis.

8.  Boost immunity.

Vitamin C and the antioxidant in the fruit stimulate white blood cells to defend your body against harmful free radicals and damaging oxidative stress.  Free radicals hurt your organs and mutate your cells into cancer.

9.  Prevent certain types of cancer.

Antioxidants, bromelain vitamin A, beta-carotene and other flavonoids and the elevated level of manganese may help eating the fruit to prevent certain cancers, e.g. mouth, throat, and breast.
